AAI holds its regular General Membership Meetings on the third Friday of the month from September through May in the Roy Smith Theater or Main Lecture Hall on the Union County Community College campus. On all other Friday evenings, AAI presents informal presentations which are held in the Sperry Observatory classroom at 8:30 p.m. These are free and open to the public. On these Fridays, the observatory is open from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
The first Friday of each month is normally reserved for Kathy Vaccari’s “What’s Up: A Down to Earth Sky Guide.” At Kathy’s lecture, you’ll learn about the constellations, planets, meteor showers, lunar phases, and other celestial happenings for that month.
From 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., whenever weather conditions permit, the public is invited to view the night skies through the 24-inch reflector and the 10-inch refractor telescopes. Trained observers are on hand to operate this equipment and to answer your questions.
This service is provided to you free of charge, and we have lots of free parking. Of course, donations are always welcome.
A note to AAI Members: We wish to encourage all AAI members to get involved and present astronomy topics on Friday evenings to the public. If interested, please contact Our Displays & Presentations Committee Chair
