ASTRONOMY DAY IS TODAY, SATURDAY, MAY 17! – Our theme is “Solar Max, Unlocking the Secrets of the Sun”. We are holding this event at 2 locations. We will be at Trailside Nature & Science Center in the afternoon from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm. We are having children’s activities, presentations about stars and the Sun’s affects on the Earth, safe solar observing, science demonstrations, how to make a spectroscope, meteorites and geology presentations and displays, a scavenger hunt for beautiful space images, a solar system walk, and the robotics team from the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School! In the evening at William Miller Sperry Observatory we will have a presentation about the Sun, door prizes for children and observing through the 2 large telescopes located in the Observatory. The event is free and there is free parking at both locations. Trailside is located at 452 New Providence Road, Mountainside, NJ. William Miller Sperry Observatory is located at 1033 Springfield Ave, Cranford, NJ on the campus of Union College. And, weather permitting, we will do observing through our 2 large telescopes, a 24 inch reflector and a 10 inch refractor.
