Controlled Environment Agriculture: Food for Space – Join us at our monthly meeting held in the Roy Smith Theatre on Union College’s Cranford campus beginning at 8:00 pm on February 21. Our guest speaker is Dr. Matthew Pickens from NASA’s Kennedy Space Flight Center. Controlled Environment Agriculture is used to grow crops in extreme environments ranging from urban areas to the depths of space. It has fed astronauts on board the International Space Station and will feed explorers going to the Moon and Mars. Then on February 28, join us in Sperry Observatory at 8:30 pm for a presentation titled “The Modern Search for Planet X”. This deals with current efforts to try to locate a theoretical large planet far beyond Pluto. The talk will cover the people and techniques being used to probe this vast area of space for an unknown world or worlds – if it/they exists. Both presentations are open to the public. And learn about our upcoming Astronomy Day being held on Saturday, May 17, 2025!

And learn about Amateur Astronomers, Inc. the Astronomy club that makes its home at Sperry Observatory located on the campus of Union College in Cranford, NJ and how you can join. And, weather permitting, we will do observing through our 2 large telescopes, a 24 inch reflector and a 10 inch refractor.

Amateur Astronomers, Inc. (also known as AAI), celebrated 75 years as an astronomy club in November, 2024!

Sperry Observatory will be open to the public this Friday, April 25,  at 10:00 pm, after the monthly meeting. Join us in the Roy Smith Theater at 8:00 pm with our guest speaker followed by observing at 10:00 pm in the Observatory.  Register at the entrance to the Observatory.
